Egyptian stela found by accident

June 08, 2021

An Egyptian citizen found a sandstone stela while preparing his land for cultivation in Ismailia. The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities was immediately notified and unearthed the stela from the farm. The stela dates to Dynasty 26 (664–525 BCE) and is decorated with a carved winged sun disk and the cartouche of King Wah-ib-re, the fifth king of Dynasty 26 who was overthrown from his position by Amasis II. The round-topped stela also contained horizontal lines of hieroglyphic text and was sent to Ismailia Museum for further study and work. The piece can shed more light on the king’s reign.
