More ancient treasures found in Saqqara

October 20, 2020

More than 80 intact coffins from around 2500 years ago have been found by an Egyptian archaeological mission working in the necropolis site of Saqqara.

It is another major discovery after the last one revealed shafts containing multiple colored sarcophagi dated to Dynasty XXVI.

The ongoing work of the excavation team uncovered more shafts and coffins. They were inspected by the Egyptian Prime Minister, the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities and the Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities.

More details on this brand new discovery will be revealed to the public within the coming weeks.
