As the world awaits the imminent opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), another significant section of the GEM, the Grand Staircase, has already been opened to the public.
The Grand Staircase is a vertical gallery and key pathway in the GEM. The space covers 6,500 square meters and contains important ancient Egyptian artifacts placed on a staircase that ends with a panoramic view of the Giza Pyramids.
The display is organized into four main themes, under which the artifacts are categorized: Royal Image, Kings and Gods, Divine Houses, and Journey to Eternity. Among the artifacts on display are the colossal statues of King Senwosret III, Amenhotep III, Akhenaten, Seti I, and Queen Hatshepsut. Various statues of deities include the statues of Ptah, Serapis, Sekhmet, and Rehorakhty.
The Grand Egyptian Museum will house over 100,000 ancient Egyptian artifacts including the full collection from the tomb of King Tutankhamun, positioning it as the world's largest museum dedicated to a single civilization. The full opening of the GEM is expected to be in the spring of 2024.
